Cameroon Inspired Necklace

The African Millefiore beads
which dominate the top neck cord
and each hanging strand
were the gift of Myrle Borine.
The large rich brown stoneware bead
in the center of the waxed linen neck cord
was made by BHClaysmith as were
all the many ceramic beads in the strands.

The eight necklace strands or tassels
are complete with Salwag discs, hand cut glass discs,
carved horn/bone beads, Czech glass elephants,
wood bi-cones, metal beads, glass seed beads,
African powdered glass beads and Trade beads.
Black leather cords wrapped in copper wire finish
the sides and attach to a heavy copper chain
which can be shortened if needed.

...And you thought copper wire was only for wiring a house!

16 gauge wire hammered flat into shapes or curves
are a great way to show off stones
 like these Jasper ovals...

Wire also is a complement to Vintage watch faces
especially when you place them back to back
on a pair of dangle earrings
so you look good both coming and going...

The Southwest patterns on these earthenware slabs
are also a good fit with copper wire; these two
are finished on both sides making them reversible...

Spirals can be mesmerizing! Combine them with
semi-precious Sodalite chunks to create earrings
with that winning combination...

Stoneware slab shards (finished each side) are
topped with copper coiled wire stems
which end in smaller spirals...

Faceted Oregon Opals dangle from these textured
copper buttons accented with copper wire
interlocking spirals...

And all of this wire was up-cycled by Linda Anderson
after completing some updates on her home; she
was kind enough to share it with me...

Slate Blue Leather Cord Statements

The simplicity of a single focal bead captured by
a copper coil...

The bead can be one of copper vintage origin...

Or lampwork double helix glass beads like these
from Chris Coffman
and have complementary earrings...

Which ever way you prefer, the statement
has been made...

2020 Pandemic Remembrance WindChimes

Whether they hang indoors or out in the garden,
W I N D  C H I M E S
are a constant reminder of the event they commemorate.

The two above are made with 400 C-lon slip stitch crochet
with Emily Cohen's hand cut and tumbled coke bottle
rings and cultured sea glass shards interspersed with
Bon trade beads and my handmade clay beads.

All of this series includes Emily's coke bottle rings
- it's the real thing -
with hand dug bamboo-root top supports.
(Detail of above windchime below)

Various glass and clay components are copper wired
in place to form very durable garden wind chimes.
They all also have the addition of small copper bells
in their strands for that subtle tingle...

This last windchime has the addition of tube beads
made from the bamboo which grows here in
Hanselwoods.
This 5-strand chime is hand strung on
waxed linen...

Thinking Outside the Box...

It's so easy to take the CERAMIC CLAY beads & pendants
you make to yet another level of Art to Wear...

For instance, the above slip-stitch/crochet necklace
was made with ceramic blob beads, disc beads and
Spirit Hole beads accented with drilled shell shards
and hand cut cultured sea glass hearts...

This reversible dragon fly pendant was suspended from
waxed linen cord on which Bon Picasso seed beads, glass
and semi-precious beads were also strung. The found
stick accent was from the tree where I spotted
the dragon fly initially...

The half round pendants we made work well by
themselves but they also look great woven to a branch
with waxed linen cord. The copper end caps will
hold the jump rings necessary to attach this to a cord.

All of these ceramic clay beads/pendants were made
in our Perkins Beads in Clay Class, Winter 2020.

All Stoneware, All Handmade Beads on a Slip Stitchery Necklace

OK, so I did measure the finished length of the wrap
 - 82" -
but I didn't count how many beads I used.

I find I have extra "perfectly fine" beads because,
when I make beads for earrings, I usually make 3,
just in case there is a mishap in the firing...

More often than not I really don't know how many beads
I will need to make a finished necklace or bracelet,
so I just make plenty...

In the end, I wind up with a nice array of handmade
and hand formed beads which only have
one thing in common...CLAY!

And they are what I used to make this fun piece!

The MEDEA Necklace

This triple strand necklace simply made itself...

The magnet closure makes it an easy wear!

Slip Stitchery Jewelry - Necklaces and Bracelet Wraps

What's better than a handmade necklace of  Bon Antique
Picasso beads, Tibetan DZI Rounds and Mykonos
oxidized copper flakes and fish closure...

A bracelet that can be either a bracelet or a necklace
and contains all of these things!

This one of Bon Antique Picasso tubes, teal waxed
linen cord, lime-blue glass Rondelles and a hunk of
semi-precious rock does the same thing...

It's both a necklace or a bracelet wrap!
