Wish Box with Deer Antler Handle

This compact box was a result of
a class demo where we tried using
box templates designed for cardboard, not clay!

Even so, the boxes we made came out pretty good
with some simple adjustments
for the clay thickness.

It was also an opportunity to question
the use of alternative handles -
found wood, vines & even antlers!

Since I built the box in clay with no patterning,
it also gave me the option of creating interest
with glazes which I layered.

When I built the box, I put 4 holes in the top
anticipating a found handle
which I wired on.

Emily's Polka Dot Pyramid Box

This Pyramid shape box was made using
cardboard templates for making
a folded paper box.

Some adjustments had to be made
for it to work with clay...

But the glazing was pure abandonment!

Rectangle ScrapBach Dish

If this were an inch or so wider,
it would be perfect to hold eye glasses.

Deer Secrets Stoneware Triangular Box

This basic box was built using paper box
templates found online. The triangular shape
and the Deer key suggested the
antler handle...

Other adornments just happened as I attached
the antler.  The inside is glazed with
Amaco Seaweed green; the outside is
Textured Iron from Spectrum.

Ceramic Clay POUR ME Pitcher

This 5" high pitcher started life as a bottle
then became a vase which became a pitcher...
These are the kind of things which happen
when you do a class demo!

Petroglyphs

No matter the civilization, duplicate symbols
from each show up across the boards.
The individual meanings
are up for grabs still we feel
an attraction to many of them
as if we were the ones
who left them...

My latest INTAGLIO impressing mat
is a conglomeration of ancient symbols,
PETROGLYPHS, if you will
which have been sized
small enough for fashionable wearables.

Petroglyphs also has reflective symmetry
which allows you to pattern
the most massive of trays.

Available through BHClaysmith Etsy.

The CUTEsie making workshop

Oh What Fun...Ceramic Pot Shard Pendant Necklaces

I love using my very own clay shards
to fabricate these necklaces.
I feel as if I can truly claim responsibility
for their existence and their upcycling
to "Art to Wear."

Cream and Sugar Prototypes

So today I played around with tweaking
cream and sugar templates
I had previously made...

This pitcher is slightly larger than
the original with more
slope to the back of it.

I never really finished the sugar bowl
design with the previous pitcher.

I like this sugar bowl design but feel
it has to be shorter.
Right now it looks like it could be
a tea caddy.

Now there's a thought...

Tumbled Pottery Shard Pendants

Each one of these pottery shards
is a piece of someone’s vision.
They are an imagined bowl, cup or platter
headed for the Holiday table
or that special pitcher for the Maple syrup
served on Sunday mornings.

But somewhere en route
to their continued existence,
they met with an insurmountable hurdle.
This in no way lessens their value
as a symbol of a dream.

Each smooth tactile piece of clay
embodies the process it took to ‘become’
 and to wear one
is to share in this inexplicable experience!

(Each shard may be worn with either side out.)

Getting a Handle (or two) on Your Cereal Bowl

Everyone should spend the morning
enjoying their favorite cereal
in a splendiferous bowl...

And a handle helps to keep that bowl
from slipping from one's grasp...

Even the big part of a spoon is the handle;
how else would we pick it up?

So it's great to have handles on both
your spoon AND bowl.

These also work well for soup...

Look for my bowls at the
Community Arts Center in
Wallingford, PA
during their Empty Bowl Sale
this year.
