January 12th Workshop

My first workshop of 2019
"Making Ceramic Shards into Necklaces"
will happen on January 12th from 1 to 4 PM
at
GALLERY on PARK
104 Park Avenue, Swarthmore, PA 19081

This hands-on opportunity will familiarize you with many
ways to create Art to Wear necklaces with up-cycled
Pottery Shards...Each of these pottery shards
is a piece of ceramic vision!
They are an imagined bowl, cup or platter
headed for the Holiday table or that special pitcher
used to serve maple syrup on Sunday mornings.
But somewhere en route to their continued existence,
they met with an insurmountable hurdle.
This in no way lessens their value
as a symbol of a dream.

Each tumbled smooth tactile clay shard
embodies the process it took “to become”
and to make one into a necklace to wear
is to share in this inexplicable experience.
Please contact Martha Perkins at the Gallery
info@galleryonpark.com
to reserve your spot!

A Holiday Sale 2018

I do very few Craft Shows anymore but
I wanted to support the Cheltenham Center for the Arts
where I teach a Tuesday morning hand building clay class
and this seemed like a good way to do it.
This will be an intimate gathering of local artists
who love what they do and who want to share it with you...

Hope to see you there!

Featured in November...

Two of my best selling INTAGLIO mats
are Bordered Ginkgo & Paisley.

The Paisley design is the surface patterning
on this Shamanistic Rattle
with found wood handle...

Both of these mats can be purchased on my Etsy site:

For the month of November, they will both
be available with free shipping!

The Bordered Ginkgo Leaves tray above
was made by Linda Selwood,
a good friend and clay student at
Community Arts Center,
Wallingford, PA.

Each of these pottery shards is a piece of ceramic vision!

They are an imagined bowl, cup or platter headed for the
Holiday table or that special pitcher used to serve maple
syrup on Sunday mornings. But somewhere en route
to their continued existence,
they met with an insurmountable hurdle.
This in no way lessens their value as a symbol of a dream.

Calico Clay Components

I made a nice selection of Calico Clay Components
and this ended up being my favorite;
this is side one finished with underglazes
and Designer Liner dots and lines

And this is side two partially patterned with a
rice paper transfer...

I decided to make a necklace using this fun piece
and even ended up using it 'upside down'.
I combined it with a found piece of wood...

...Seed beads, heavy copper chain, clay beads
and a melange of other found beads.
This will debut at Blue Santa Beads & Boutique,
Media, PA on November 1st at my Trunk Show.

See you there...?

Wasser Glass Meets Copper & Clay E A R R I N G S

These waffle Wasser slabs told me exactly what they
wanted to be as they dropped to my work table from
 their Emily Cohen Florida Ziploc...

Even the interesting shapes of the waffle Wasser have a
unique appeal when layered atop a neutral rectangle
of plain Wasser glass complemented by a
clay Spirit Hole disc...

The combination of lightweight Wasser glass shapes
& paper thin ceramic Spirit Hole discs
makes these statement earrings such an easy wear...

I'm loving the asymmetrical cuts of Wasser...

...almost as much as this "Put-a-Cork-in-It!" wine bottle
earring display by Floridian jewelry artist,
Emily Cohen!

V A S E S

Sometimes it's nice to see how a piece of pottery
LOOKS as it's becoming a functional form...

The SW Vase above is constructed
with rough hand dug clay and has my signature
hangie-downs to let you know when a curious cat
is investigation what's IN IT...

While the Fish Stenciled Vase has no such protection!

The Leaf Me Alone vase is much smaller
and belted with leather from which both beads
and a clay leaf hang. The opening
is lined with leaves which accent the floral blooms...

Both the Mikado (left) and Scrappie Vase are still
simple cylinders with pinch-strip collars;
their form comes from what is there,
their function from what is not there.

Revisiting My Clay Pots...

I took a workshop with a Vermont hand builder
who made cylinders into amazing bottles,
so I tried some as well
using my inlaid and transfer techniques...

September Share Necklaces

I am doing a September 8th Saturday Share at
Blue Santa Beads & Boutique where I will not only create
Clay to Wear with purchased components
 by attending shoppers

But will also have a nice showing of new completed work.
This reversible pendant necklace (above) is accented with
a found wood topper and Wasser glass hangies...

The two sides of this gas-fired Boomerang pendant is
also accented with a found wood topper and inlaid
flat round porcelain bead  hanging beneath.

These two Boomerang pendants were offered for sale
previously at Blue Santa Beads in Media, PA but they are
now Clay to Wear and ready to wear...

Wasser and Beach glass are the accents to these
scroddled clay spirit hole discs which form this
fun conversation piece of neck wear...

And last but not least, faux African trade rounds,
flat glass squares, seed beads and a hollow textured
clay focal tube bead make up this statement piece.
