Earthenware Scarab Pyramid Box

This hand built "secrets" box contains a hanging

double-sided face - one face looks to the past,

the other to the future.

The double-sided face bead is there to keep you 

centered in the present. This box is also adorned with Scarabs, 

a symbol of Eternity to the ancient Egyptians.

Scarabs are also associated with purposeful direction

where a meaningful path is the one chosen.

as you embark on your life's journey.

The Tray with the Checkered Past

Un-fired Greenware tray with cobalt slip stenciled squares 

on a tan clay body. The green branch with leaves has been painted 

with underglazes and the tray measures 9" x 12".

The PMS (Press Mold Shape) #12 made from lightweight

wood by David Weisenbach of DropBach.

Roxanne's Pour Out Your Heart Jug

Roxanne Ballantini created a wonderful piece for our class showing,

June 12th through July 16th, 2016 at the Community Arts Center.

 The pinch strip built jug boasts 

a found twisted Filbert wood handle...

Roxanne multi-glazed her piece and once fired,

the handle was wired in place.

The shaped pour spout gives the quaint little jug

it's official name...

A Pair of Pourers...

Earthenware Pourers glazed inside with Old Brick

and ready for their outside glazes.

 After the glaze firing -

Mayan Mayhem Pourer has 2 coats of  O-26 Turquoise

with 1 coat of A 32 Iron Saturate over it on the outside.

Both glazes are from Amaco.

Paisleaf Pourer has EM - 126 Laguna Seafoam

on the outside - one coat on the texture which was lifted

and two coats on the spout area.

DropBach and Foam Pressed Trays

Stencils are such fun things to use to create patterning

especially on a slab of clay.  This 10 x 10 DropBach

tray was created from a slab painted with blue green

slip over a stencil; some underglaze accents were

added as well and then after a bisque firing, the tray

was glazed with Duncan clear brilliance.

This free form press form tray stenciled with a floral

reminiscent of  50's wallpaper was made from

earthenware and simply clear glazed.

The Verdant Vase

A few months back, I did a workshop

on hand building vases in ceramic clay.

The pinchstrip technique

used for this one was one of my

demonstration pots which finally got glazed.

Clay Standard 153,
Ceramic Shop Wintergreen inside and top outer band 

with stripes of Ron Roy Floating Teal, Ron Roy Floating teal 

on balance of vase, lifted off before glazing with 

Van Gilders Oribe, fired cone 6 electric.

Three Little Fishies Neck Wear

"Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Lived three little fishies and a mamma fishy, too 
Swim said the mamma fishy, Swim if you can..."

Three little carved horn fishies arrived

a few weeks back in a box from my friend

Emily Cohen from Florida...

Since I am not a Pisces but have plenty of

"Piscean" friends, I figured I would 

use them someday.  That day came sooner

than planned when I came across

the stoneware yoke I had made

ions ago... they called to each other!

Then there were the hand cut glass discs 

from Emily which arrived this week.

I had no choice but to make them all

into a necklace tonight...

My 2016 Birthday Necklace

Over the years I have collected many components, 

always promising myself I would make something using them.

With the arrival of my latest CatfishStu goodie, 

I finally broke down 

and made myself a Birthday necklace for this year.

The PONDerosa

So I wanted to try inserting a half round of clay

into the end of a cylinder to see how it worked...

It seemed to work fine, so I built a house on the edge 

then melted a chunk of glass in the half round.

I dipped the piece in Bobbi's White prior to adding

the glass chunk and doing the final firing.

I also wanted to see if the three legs created simply

by pushing in the clay would work...
